Winter Outdoor Activities in Queens

When it is cold outside, you may not think you want to get bundled up and go out there. But when you are here with your passenger van rental, you will find there are many great winter activities outdoors in Queens.

Are you feeling a little crazy?

The Rockaway Polar Bear Club takes winter fun to the extreme with the polar bear dip. They usually meet on New Year抯 Day at the beach on 146th Street. Head on down with your passenger rental van to join in on the fun, or just come to watch.

Outdoor skating

For those that like to remain dry, you can try skating at one of the local rinks. It is not advised that you skate on the semi-frozen ponds in the city as there is a chance that they are not completely frozen. Be safe and try the World抯 Fair Ice Skating Rink at flushing Meadow Park. This is a classic winter activity that never gets old.

Going downhill

Sledding is another fun winter activity that you can try when you are here with your van rental for 15 passengers. Of course, there needs to be snow to enjoy this activity, so take advantage of the white stuff and head over to Lower Highland Park, which is easily accessed on the Brooklyn side of the park. Check with the Department of Parks and Recreation as they have Snow Days where they provide sleds, music, and hot chocolate for those that come out. But you need to check out their website to see when they will announce this event. There is also great sledding at Crocheron Park in Bayside or Forest Park in Richmond Hill.

Take a hike

Sometimes it is easy to forget that hiking is still a great activity for the winter, as long as you have the right clothing. When you are here with your rental van for 15 passengers, you can try taking a nature walk along the wetland trails of Alley Pond in Douglaston, walk along the Atlantic Ocean at Rockaway Beach (maybe you can also catch the Polar Bear Dip!), or go through Socrates Sculpture Park. For kids, Forest Park is a great choice because there is a kid-friendly trail here.

Cross country skiing and snowshoeing

When you are here with your passenger rental van, you may try your hand at cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in the area. This is a great way to get a feel for the area on foot in the winter. Flushing Meadow Park, Forest Park, and Fort Totten all have great trails for this purpose. These are great cardio workouts as well, so you can burn off some of the calories you're been eating with the great food you will find in Queens!

Bird watching

Bird watching is not just a summer activity! When you are here with your van rental for 15 passengers, you can see the birds that remain for the winter. The best site for this is Baisley Pond Park where you can see ducks throughout the winter. Species that are rarely seen in other parts of the city have been spotted here. Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge is another great choice.

When you are here with your passenger van rental, you will find that there are many things that you can do outside in the winter. For skating to cross country skiing, and possibly even a polar bear dip, you will find it all here in Queens. With a little creative thinking and some warm clothing, you are all set to take on the cold and have fun outdoors.
