About Van Cortlandt
Van Cortlandt Park was named for the first New York City Mayor who was actually born in New York City, Stephen Van Cortlandt. The Van Cortlandt family was a prominent one during the Dutch and English colonial periods. Both the museum and the park are operated by the New York City Parks Department.
