Toyota Highlander
The Toyota Highlander is a midsize crossover SUV made by Toyota that you can choose as your Brooklyn discount rental car. Toyota first announced the Highlander in 2000 at the New York Auto Show for release in 2001. The Toyota Highlander was the first car-based midsize SUV or midsize crossover and is the counterpart to the more rugged Toyota 4Runner. This crossover has been a success for the company.
What to expect
When you choose the Toyota Highlander as your Brooklyn discount car rental to explore New York, you will find that they are now in production of the second generation of this model (which has been produced since 2007). In 2008, the Highlander had a 270 horsepower 3.5 liter 2GR-FE V6 engine with a five-speed automatic transmission. For 2009, Toyota also offered a 4-cylander for 5 passenger front-wheel drive models with the new ULEV-II certified 1AR-FE I4 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. It generates 187 hp at 5800 rpm and 186 ft lb of torque. The four-cylinder has an estimated fuel economy of 20 miles per gallon in the city and 27 miles per gallon on the highway. There were three trim levels offered until early 2010. There is an Electronic Power Steering system and some models have a back-up camera. In 2010, for the 2011 model year, Toyota has made more changes to the Highlander. The general design is still the same as the 2010 model, but the front end has been revised with new headlights, black with chrome accent rocker panel, and front grill. The non-hybrid engine remains the same and there are more standard features when you choose this as your discount rental car Brooklyn.
Safety for you and your family

All of the Toyota Highlanders come standard with enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, which will immediately alter the electric power steering assist with traction control, anti-lock brakes, brake assist, and electronic brake force distribution. There is a tire pressure monitor, driver's knee airbag, front-seat mounted side torso airbags, side curtain airbags for all three rows, which also includes a rollover sensor and active front headrests. In 2008, the NHTSA gave the Toyota Highlander 5 out of 5 stars for the frontal driver, side driver, and side rear passenger. It got 4 out of 5 stars for the frontal passenger and rollover. The IIHS rates the Toyota Highlander as "Good" overall in their frontal offset crash test and good in all sub-categories except for "Head/Neck", which is rated as "Acceptable". It also got a "Good" rating for roof strength. You can feel confident in that this SUV is safe.
Why a crossover?
The crossover may be a good choice for your Brooklyn discount car rental because it combines the best features of a sports utility vehicle with the best features of a passenger vehicle. They tend to have a tall interior for more space inside, high H-point seating, high ground clearance, and all-wheel drive capability. Similar to a car, it uses the same platform, independent rear suspension, car-like handling, and fuel economy (which is always good when gas prices are high!).
When you choose the Toyota Highlander as your Brooklyn discount rental car, you will find this is a great choice for a family or group, especially when you have a lot of luggage. The crossover will give you good gas mileage to explore the area, yet still have space for all the things you need to bring with you.
