Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater

The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater is located in Central Park with your 15 passenger van rental. This was originally built as a schoolhouse in the Baltic style for Sweden’s exhibit at the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. It was later moved to Central Park and is now used as a public marionette theater.

A little bit of magic

When you visit with your 15 passenger rental van, you will find that the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater can bring a little bit of magic to life. The puppeteers bring to life stories of princes and princesses, paupers, genies, and giants to young and old. They have been performing here since after World War II, and is the only public marionette theater company in the United States that writes (or adapts) their scripts, constructs the puppets, and designs all aspects of the show. They have performed such classics as Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Hansel and Gretel. There are regular shows on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children. Calling ahead for reservations is recommended. They are located at 79th Street and the West Drive, just south of the Delacorte Theater.

Central Park

While you are here with your passenger van rental, you will find Central Park on 1.2 square miles in the heart of Manhattan. The park sees about 25 million visitors every year, and is one of the most famous landmarks of the city. The park looks very natural, but there is a lot of landscaping that goes on here! There are lakes and ponds, walking tracks, two ice skating rinks, a swimming pool, the Central Park Zoo, the Central Park Conservatory Garden, natural woods, and an outdoor theater where “Shakespeare in the Park” is held in the summer.

Fun things for kids

When you are here to see the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater with your passenger rental van, you might also want to stop by the Central Park Zoo. The zoo has three major exhibit areas - tropic, temperate, and arctic. They are all housed in discreet buildings masked by vines. Some of the endangered species that you can see here include tamarin monkeys, Wyoming toads, thick-billed parrots, and red pandas.

Walking around

When you visit with your 15 passenger van rental, you might also want to visit the Conservatory Garden, which is the only formal garden in the park. It is made up of 6 acres with three distinct parts to the garden. You can get here through the Vanderbilt Gate on Fifth Avenue and 105th Street. There is a Secret Garden water lily pool, which is dedicated to the memory of Frances Hodgson Burnett. There are seasonal features from April through October.

The Great Lawn

The Great Lawn and Turtle Pond is one of the central features of Central Park when you visit with your 15 passenger rental van. In nice weather, you will find there are people milling about here, enjoying the sun and some peace in the middle of the city. The Delacorte Theater is at one end of the Great Lawn for open-air performances. Each summer, you can see two productions here suring two-week runs. At least one work is by William Shakespeare. These plays are free to the public, but you have to get here early for seats. They are served on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the performance. Lines normally begin at dawn.

When you visit with your 15 passenger van rental, you will find the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater is an experience you will not find elsewhere, especially if you have kids!
