Salt Marsh Nature Center is one of ten Urban Park Ranger Nature Centers that serves as a place for public education, recreation activities, and environmental studies. This opportunity allows people to work with Park Rangers to learn about the plants and animals of the salt marsh in a variety of subjects. This includes ecology, botany, and ornithology. This project is great to take kids to with your New York car rental because they can learn about the city's cultural history with lessons about the development of the parks system in New York. There are a number of programs available to participate in here.

Also available at the Salt Marsh are a number of cultural and community events. For example, if you come on Saturday night with your New York car rental, then you can experience Saturday Night Live, a program that brings live entertainment to the Salt Marsh Nature Center. There are musical groups, storytellers, and open-mike poetry readings among other activities. On the weekends, activities are more focused on the kids, with activities such as magic shows, arts and crafts, and story time. Also, there are weekly yoga classes here as well as monthly drawing classes.

When traveling by New York car rental, take the Belt Parkway to Exit 11N (Flatbush Avenue/Kings Plaza). Then drive north on Flatbush Avenue to Avenue U. Turn left and continue west for ten blocks. Drive past 33rd Street and look for the Marine Park parking lot on the right. Parking here is free for your New York car rental and the Nature Center is right across the street.
