Yonkers car hire and the Queens County Farm Museum

The Queens County Farm Museum dates back to 1697 and occupies the largest area of farmland in New York City. It is also the only working historical farm in the City. When you visit with your Yonkers car hire, you will find historic farm buildings, a greenhouse, livestock, farm vehicles, planting fields, an orchard, and an herb garden.

About the museum

The Queens County Farm Museum is a historical tract of land that is the longest continuously farmed site in the state. The farm is owned by the New York City Department of Parks and is operated by the Colonial Farmhouse Restoration Society of Bellerose. The museum is open year-round during the week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are free guided tours on the weekend of the farmhouse when you visit with your Yonkers car hire.

Buy and eat local

When you visit the Queens County Farm Museum, you will see why eating locally can help the economy and the environment. Not too long ago, most Americans lived on farms and grew their own food. Those who lived in cities would get their food from farmers nearby that would bring their goods to market from nearby farms. When you visit with your Yonkers car hire, you may learn that Brooklyn was the top producing agricultural county in the country. But in the 20th century farms went bankrupt in the area and moved west.
