Boy Scouts of Brooklyn

On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

Millions of young boys have taken the above oath, pledging membership into the Boy Scouts of America, the largest youth organization in the United States. Since its founding in 1910, more than 110 million Americans have been members of the BSA, which teaches young boys valuable life lessons and skills. All Car Brooklyn Car Rentals humbly supports the Boy Scouts of America and is proud to be a member of the Brooklyn Boy Scouts Board Committee. Good scouts grow up to be great men, and that's something All Car will always support. Read on to learn more about this important organization.

What Boy Scouts is all about
Boy Scouting is the flagship division of the Boy Scouts of America, providing young men ages 10 to 18 with important life challenges and learning exercises. Fitness is a main component of scouting, as the organization uses outdoor activities like camping, hiking and aquatics to build character and mould better citizens. The stated objectives of the Boy Scouts of America are character development, citizenship training and personal fitness. Scouts learn to use the ideals laid forth in the Scout Oath, by adhering to Scout Law and the Scout motto.

It's all in the badge
One of the ways Boy Scouts showcase their many achievements is through the collection of merit badges to be displayed on their uniform. These badges range over a wide variety of subjects and include both physical and mental challenges. Traditional merit badges include Personal Fitness, Plant Science, forestry and fire safety. There are also a wide variety of more advanced merit badges, like graphic arts, nuclear science, small-boat sailing and veterinary medicine. Special opportunity awards are awarded for a number of alternative merit opportunities include the Historic Trails Award, the World Conservation Award and the Lifesaving and Meritorious Action Award.

How Scouts are making a difference
On of the main goals of scouting is to teach children how to give back to their community. According to Scout Law, a successful scout is concerned about other people. That's why scouts are willing to do things for others without pay or reward. A few examples of this selflessness are prevalent right here in Brooklyn. Members of the Boy Scout Troop 787 Flushing, NY recently readied the 197th precinct for the national Night Out Against Crime by cleaning up weeds and litter from the precincts exterior. One scout from Troop 310 Brooklyn took his compassion even further, helping the children of war-torn Iraq by sending school supplies, clothes, shoes and toys as part of his Eagle Scout project.
