Palace Theater

The Palace Theater is a Broadway Theater in New York City on Broadway, which you can visit with your Queens car rental. This has been home to some of the best plays throughout the years, and continues to do so today.

Theater history

When you are here with your Queens rental car, you may learn the theater was designed by Kirchhoff & Ross, and built by a vaudeville entrepreneur. There were a number of problems with the theater before it opened. Oscar Hammerstein was the only person who was able to offer acts for that part of Broadway, so he had to be paid off with $225,000. Finally, the theater opened in 1913. With the Great Depression, theater went out of style as film and radio came in style. It was converted to a movie house. In the 1950s, there was an effort to revive vaudeville with acts such as Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, and Jerry Lewis. They were successful, but not enough to bring in a lot of money. Most recently, it was home to the performance of Legally Blond: The Musical, which played from 2001 until 2008.

Legend has it that Borsalino fell to his death in the 1950s and stagehands have seen him swinging from the rafters. The ghost will scream and fall as he did that night. However, the real story is that while Borsalino fell during a performance, he was only injured.
