The New Yorker Hotel was built in 1929 and opened in 1930. Like many of the other buildings of the time, such as the nearby Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building, it was designed in the Art Deco style. For many years, it was the largest hotel in the city, with 2500 rooms, ballrooms, 10 private dining salons, and five restaurants.
