The buildings were built in 1934 and restored in the 1990s. The Domino Sugar Refinery is also designated a New York City Landmark that was originally built in 1856. By 1870, this building turned out more than half of the sugar used in the United States. A fire in 1882 destroyed the building, which was rebuilt in brick. This refinery was in operation until 2004.
