Car Rental New York City and Mill Island

Mill Island and Mill Basin are a neighborhood in southeastern Brooklyn along Jamaica Bay. This area was sold in 1664 by local Canarsee Indians to John Tilton Jr. and Samuel Spicer. During the next century it became part of the Flatlands. It was a largely rural area until 1890, when Robert L. Crooke built a lead-smelting plant in the area. In the early 20th century a lot of marshland was purchased and filled. Heavy industry opened in the area, but Jamaica Bay failed to attract a large amount of shipping. It wasn’t until after the Second World War that the area became a largely residential neighborhood. It is located near many local attractions in Manhattan and Brooklyn with a Brooklyn car rental.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Located next to Prospect Park in Brooklyn, this is a 52 acre botanical garden. It includes a cherry tree esplanade, a one acre rose garden, a Japanese hill and pond garden, a water lily pond esplanade, several conservatories, a rock garden, a native flora garden, a bonsai tree collection, and children's gardens and discovery exhibits. The fragrance garden is an interesting place to visit to smell plants and explore kitchen herbs.

For Kids

Brooklyn is home to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, the first of its kind in the world. It opened in 1899 in the area of Crown Heights, just a shirt distance from Mill Island with a Brooklyn car rental. Eleanor Roosevelt even attended the opening ceremony for the Smith House annex. There are many different exhibits for children to learn about many different things, from patterns to world culture and much in between. Parking is available for your Brooklyn car rental.

New York Aquarium

Once located in Battery Park, the New York Aquarium is the oldest aquarium in the United States that remains open. This trip requires you to drive to Coney Island with your Brooklyn car rental, but once you are there, there is so much to do and see. It is located on Surf Avenue & West 8th Street. It features over 8000 animals from all over the world, including some from the arctic, the coast of Africa, and even the Hudson River. You can see feedings and demonstrations every day, and learn about some of the research going on. This is a great place to visit with kids: it is a lot of fun and educational.
