A collection of campuses

Long Island University was chartered in 1926 in Brooklyn by the New York State Education Department to provide moderately priced education in the area. In 1947, as people moved to the suburbs, so did the university. Long Island University purchased land in Brookville. In 1963, a third campus was purchased in Southampton. But management of this campus was too costly, so it was eventually sold to the State University of New York in 2006. The masters program that was located here was transferred to Riverhead, while the bachelor's degree program was transferred to SUNY Stony Brook.
