LaTourette Park

LaTourette Park is located on Staten Island with your passenger van rental.

Park history

The land that LaTourette Park is located on was once the home and farm of David and Ann LaTourette. They established themselves in the area in 1830 and worked until the farm was one of the top producing family farms on Staten Island. They were known for excellent produce in the city. When you visit with your passenger rental van, you may learn that the family sold their farm to the city in 1928, and was later given to the parks department in 1955. The farmhouse is no longer standing here, but the mansion is now used as a club house for the golf course that can be found here.

Look out!

When you visit with your large van rental, you will want to travel along the "blue trail". During the Revolutionary War, the British used this area to watch for approaching Americans. The panoramic view overlooks Richmond Creek, which you will want to have your camera on hand for. Near the foot of the park is Richmond Town Restoration, which is a reconstructed village with four centuries of Staten Island history and culture. While not officially part of the park, this is an interesting place to visit as well.

More parks

LaTourette Park is part of the Staten Island Greenbelt, which is a number of public and private green spaces in the center of Staten Island. With 2800 acres, it is the largest park under municipal jurisdiction. Much of the area has been preserved in its natural state to protect the wide variety of animals and plants in the area. The Greenbelt includes the High Rock Environmental Center, the William T. Davis Wildlife Refuge, Willowbrook Park, and other parks. It was formed in 1989 to make the area greener. When you visit with your large rental van, you can explore all of these parks within the Staten Island Greenbelt.

Four!

LaTourette Park also has a golf course which you can enjoy when you visit with your large van rental. They have an 18-hole golf course on 125 acres of land. There is a clubhouse and restaurant on site as well, for a bite to eat after a long day on the course. This course is open to the public through out the year. When you visit in the winter, they have sleds available for snowy days.

Feel like you are part of history

When you visit with your passenger van rental, you can also stop by Historic Richmond Town. This museum encompasses four centuries of history on Staten Island. Richmond was a hamlet on Staten Island in the 1690s and was the county seat in 1728. After Staten Island became part of the City of New York in 1898, the government offices moved to St. George because of its proximity to the ferry. Richmond became a quiet area on the island. There are 28 historic buildings from the late 17th century to the early 20th century. The oldest surviving elementary school, courthouse, and one-room general store are all part of the exhibit. Skills such as carpentry, spinning and weaving, quilting, fireplace cooking, and basket weaving are all demonstrated here as well. If you happen to be here during Christmas, this is a great place to see the festivities that that take place.

When you visit with your passenger van rental, you will find that LaTourette Park is a great place to visit in the Staten Island Greenbelt. This park has a golf course as well as a historic village where you can learn about the history of Staten Island.
