The Noble Maritime Collection is a museum that is here to preserve and interpret the art, writings, and historical maritime artifacts of marine artist John A. Noble. It is here to celebrate the people and traditions of those who worked the waterfront of New York Harbor and Sailors' Snug Harbor. What you will see

When you visit with your Staten Island car rental, you will find John A. Noble's Houseboat Studio. This was restored to look as it was in 1954, the year that Nobel was featured in National Geographic. You will see where Noble created his art for over 40 years and where he chronicled 20th century working ships in New York Harbor. In the Crosswalk Gallery, you will find a 12,000 square foot mural of the maritime industry along the banks of the Kill van Kull. You can also explore what life was like for mariners in a dorm room. This room has the original furniture, bed linen, and chairs to show how retired seamen lived in Sailors' Snug Harbor.

Discover the life of John A. Noble

John A. Noble was born in Paris in 1913, the son of the noted American painter. He spent his early years in the studio with his father and his contemporaries. In 1919, he moved to America. From 1928-1945, Noble worked as a seaman on the schooners and in marine salvage. In 1928, he saw the old Port Johnston coal docks for the first time. It was a sight that would affect him for the rest of his life. It was filled with new but obsolete ships. He would later set up his floating studio there. Noble died in 1983.

Plan your visit

The Noble Collection is open Wednesday through Saturday from 1-5 p.m. with your Staten Island car rental. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, students, and educators, and free for children under 12. He museum is located on the grounds of the Snug Harbor Cultural Centre at 1000 Richmond Terrace on Staten Island. There is a lot of free parking for your Staten Island car rental.
