Historic Richmond Town was established in 1958 and is a joint project of the Staten Island Historical Society and the City of New York. Spanning nearly 100 acres, the site features 15 restored buildings, including homes, a museum and commercial and civic buildings. Exhibits are located in practically every one of these buildings, providing New York rental car customers with a chance to learn more about New York City’s history. Unique exhibits happening in Historic Richmond Town right now include:

  • Toys! This fun exhibit explores the way children learn about themselves through their world of toys. More than 200 of the world’s best-loved toys from the 1840s to today will be on display in this exhibit. New York rental car travelers are encouraged to participate in hands-on activities when visiting this exhibit.
  • Made on Staten Island: Agriculture, Industry and Suburban Living in the City. This unique exhibit focuses entirely on objects crafted and produced on Staten Island from the 18th to 20th centuries. Exhibit highlights will include A Staten Island Skiff boat, an original carved horse from the Midland Beach Carousel, and a Weissglass milk delivery wagon.

Enjoy a history lesson during your upcoming New York rental car vacation

New York rental car travelers will find Historic Richmond Town at 44 Clarke Avenue on Staten Island. Village hours are:

  • September through June: Wednesday to Sunday from 1pm to 5pm
  • July through August: Wednesday to Saturday: 10am to 5pm and Sunday 1pm to 5pm.

Interpreter-led tours are offered daily at 2:30pm on weekdays and at 2pm and 3:30pm on weekends. Admission to the village is $5 for Adults, $4 for seniors and $3.50 for children 5 through 17. New York rental car customers will have no trouble finding the village if they follow the New Jersey West route to Richmond Road/Clove Road from the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. Take a left onto Richmond Road and continue for about 4.5 miles. Turn left onto Arthur King Road and continue on for about one block. Make a left at the light onto Clarke Avenue. Parking for your New York rental car is on the left.
