Car Rentals New York and Gantry Plaza State Park

Car Rental New York and Gantry Plaza State Park

One time, this was an industrial land, but today Gantry Plaza State Park has opened up the Queens waterfront in Long Island. With your car rental in New York City, you can visit this park, which is two and a half acres on the East River, and more planned. The park bends along the shoreline to a plaza and four distinct piers. From here you can see Midtown Manhattan from your wooden chaise lounges. At the northern end of the park, you can enjoy a barbeque on the grassy area.

If you happen to be in the area for a holiday such as the Fourth of July, this is one of the best places to see the Macy’s fireworks show. Not only can you see the show in the sky, but it is also reflected from the Chrysler Building across the river. You can easily get here for the show on the subway rather than try to find a spot for your car rental in New York City.

Enjoy the park

When you come here with your car rental in New York City, not only can you enjoy the views across the river, but you can also walk through the park’s gardens and the unique fountain. There are restored gantries within the park which were once used to load and unload rail car floats and barges. There are recreational facilities such as basketball courts, playgrounds, handball courts, and a fishing pier with cleaning table for your catch.

Find the park

To get to the park with your car rental in New York City is easy. If you are on the Long Island Expressway, Gantry Plaza is incredibly close to the Midtown Tunnel. Coming from the west, you take Exit 15 and turn right on Van Dam Street, then left on 49th Avenue. Continue to the end of the street. Coming from the east is a little more complicated. Exit at Borden avenue, turn right, then right again on Vernon Avenue. Then left on 49th Avenue.

If you are on the Queensborough Bridge or Queen Boulevard with your car rental in New York City, turn right on Jackson Avenue, then right on 48th Avenue. The left at the corner by the Citylights Building. Then turn right on 49th Avenue.

Spend your day in Queens

Spending the day in Queens with your car rental in New York City can bring you to many other interesting places. P.S. 1 is one of those places. This is an internationally renowned museum that is devoted to contemporary art and is known for its avant-garde exhibits and alternative space movement. The museum works with the Museum of Modern Art, but has a completely different feel to it. It’s a little less structured, a little crazier. This museum was at one time a school. One of the things that you should check out is the roof, where you will find an unadvertised sculpture if you happen to go out for a smoke (or just for a peek).
