Fort Lee Historic Park is a great place to visit with your rental car in Queens. This is where the Continental Army set up its batteries to overlook the Hudson. It was a location that would allow them to keep the British out of New York, as well as provide an escape route from the city. Located opposite Fort Washington, it was an important fort. This was particularly important because the British wanted to split the colonies in half by controlling the Hudson. In November 1776, the British were successful in capturing Fort Washington, making Fort Lee of little military value. The Americans planned to retreat from here, but the British took the fort by force. When you visit with your Queens car rental, you can visit the park and get great views of the George Washington Bridge , Hudson River, and Upper Manhattan.
