Cort Theater

The Cort Theater is a Broadway Theater on West 48th Street in Midtown Manhattan that you can visit with your rental van while you are visiting.

Theater history

John Cort, who was the founder of the Northwestern Theatrical Association, commissioned architect Thomas Lamb to design a theater. Modeled after the Petit Trianon in Versailles, the 1082-seat theater is one of the few remaining lamb theaters that is still being used for live performances. In 1972, the Shubert Organization acquired the theater, just two years before Cort's death. The theater opened in 1912 with a performance of Peg & My Heart. From 1969-1972, it was home to the Merv Griffin Show.
