Making history

War was in the air back in 1776, as the onerous government of Great Britain tried to secure ties to new North American colonies. In July, the Declaration of Independence was written and hostilities began to boil over between the two nations. In order to avoid casualties, Admiral Lord Howe was called upon by the King of England to act as a Peace Commissioner on Staten Island. A conference was called and the American delegates Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Edward Rutledge traveled to what is now know as the Conference House. The conference lasted three hours; the United States of America refused to succumb to their British forefather. A new nation had been born.
