Clove Lakes Park

Located on Slossan Avenue, Victory Boulevard, and Clove Road this beautiful park is comprised of 198 acres. Derived from the Dutch word “kloven” meaning cleft, Clove Lakes Park is situated between the valley and brook between Emerson and Grymes Hills. 20, 000 years ago a glacier deepened the valley into what it is today. It is a protected Forever Wild site due to its irreplaceable ecological assets. Clove Lakes Park has a rich natural history, with Staten Island’s largest living thing, a three hundred year old tulip tree on location. More than just a walk

A lake with a past

It was by the end of the 19th century, during a major population growth of Staten Islanders that residents started demanding for a park area. In February 1900, John De Morgan appealed to the State Assembly Committee on Cities to allocate funds to establish Silver Lake Park. It is through his efforts that the park can be enjoyed by all.
