Catamount opened in 1939 and was served by three rope tows. They were 1000 feet and 800 feet long. Skiers would have to climb the last 500 feet to reach the summit. By 1941, it was recognized as a wonderful ski area in the Berkshires, but that was the same day as Pearl Harbor, and the ski area closed until the winter of 1946-47. In the 1950s, skiing began to grow in the Berkshires with new parks opening up. Since the mid-70s, Catamount has been one of the top recreational attractions in the Berkshires. Find the right trail for you

There are over 30 trails and parks for you to try. The Snowsport Learning Area is right in front of Base Lodge where first-time skiers can start their lessons. The Meadows is a six-trail complex that is served by a triple chairlift. These are gentle trails, and are a favourite for families. When you visit with your 15 passenger van rental, get your ski legs back on these trails. The main feature for advanced skiers is the Ridge Run, which connects the Upper and Lower Promenade. This is the longest ski run in the Berkshires. The steepest trail is Catapult, which is also the steepest trail in the Berkshires.

Look before you leap

For snowboard enthusiasts, the Terrain Park has jumps, jobs, a half pipe, and boarder cross for beginners and top riders. For new riders, there is the Junior Jib Park for those looking to learn how to play in the park. On Friday nights there is a Night Rail Jam Series that has five divisions from Intro to Advanced, and even a girl's division.

Plan your visit

When you visit with your 15 passenger van rental, you can ski Monday through Thursday until 4 p.m. for only $20. Night skiing starts at 3 p.m. every day. Of course, you don't need to bring your skis with you when you visit with your 15 passenger van rental. You can even rent your skis/snowboard online without payment to make your trip that much easier. All you have to do is fill out the form, print off two copies, and bring it with you to the Ticket Booth. Once you get to the rental shop, you can move all the way to the boot sections.
