Afro-Punk Festival Brooklyn

Matthew Morgan and James Spooner joined together in 2002 in order to give a voice to multicultural kids, which resulted in Afro-Punk, spotlighting Black Punks in America. Afro-Punk has become a cultural movement that has encouraged urban kids across the nation who feel like outsiders to realize they are the core of a community. Online members have been an important part of the Afro-Punk culture in creating www.afropunk.com and have nurtured the music's best and brightest at the live performance series hosted by James Spooner. The Afro-Punk Festival has gained press coverage by Entertainment Weekly and the Los Angeles Times. Afro-Punk Festival Skate and BMX

Nike Battle for the Streets beings Saturday August 27, with practice for camp contest riders, with the contest following. Contest #1 consists of "Beats By Dre" which features 30 skaters, 6 skaters per jam, 5 minute jams with 5 minute breaks. The 3 highest scoring riders will make it on to the finals. Participants in a rent a car Brooklyn who are in Contest #2 Boost Long Ollie will have a chance to measure how far they can Ollie over as many skate boards laid flat on the ground as possible. The top three skaters that can clear the most boards will make it to the finals. Contest #3 at the Afro-Punk Festival is the Nike Just DO it Set, where the 3 highest scoring skaters in a rent a car Brooklyn will make it to the final. The highest scoring skater of the jam will be crowned the Nike Battle for the Streets Champion.

Afro-Punk partnered with Harley Davidson and Brooklyn Blake bike scene to create a custom bike show that features custom bikes. The custom bike show at the Afro-Punk Festival also serves as the backdrop for the Afro-punk, Harley Davidson and Denim and Chrome calendar that is photographed by Darius Vick.
