15 Passenger Van Rentals and ABC News World Headquarters

ABC has its headquarters in Manhattan, which you can explore with your 15 passenger van rental. ABC is part of the Walt Disney Company and also has programming offices in Burbank, California.

What you can catch on tv

Some of the current programs that ABC News carries include America This Morning, Good Morning America, 20/20, and Nightline among others. In the 1960s and 1970s, this station was not a major player compared to CBS and NBC, but in 1977, the network started to break out on its own. It was around this time that some of the most popular programming was created, including 20/20, World News Tonight, This Week, Nightline, and Primetime Live. In the 1980s, the company gained more recognition with its coverage of the Iran Hostage Crisis and the Loma Prieta earthquake in the San Francisco area. After this, it was highly competitive with NBC and CBS.

Back to its early roots

When you visit with your 15 passenger van rental, you may learn that ABC was created because NBC owned two networks, the "red" and the "blue" networks, whose name may come from the color of the pins that engineers used to designate the two affiliates. In 1940, the FCC issued a report about broadcasting in the country and required the station to see one of its chains. NBC Red was the larger network and had the lead entertainment programs. NBC Blue had most of the news and cultural programs that were unsponsored. So the company sold the Blue network. Edward Noble, the owner of Life Savers and Rexall Drugstore bought the station and a new station was born. At this time, most of the focus was on radio programs, and ABC only had a few hit shows. It wasn't until 1948 that ABC entered the television business. Success came in 1961 with Wide World of Sports. ABC at this time focused on the emerging Baby Boomer culture and had youth-oriented shows.

Walt Disney gets involved

In 1996, the Walt Disney Company purchased Capital Cities/ABC and called it ABC, Inc. The relationship actually dates back to 1953 when the company pledged money so that Disneyland could be finished. ABC had notes and stock in the company until 1960. When you visit with your 15 passenger van rental you can learn more about this relationship.
